My First ROG Dominus Extreme Was $300 and I Flipped It

Spring 2024. Before the Dominus Extreme that came back from the dead, there was this one.

I picked it up for $300 off eBay — same platform, same premise. The ROG Dominus Extreme is one of the only consumer boards ever built for the Xeon W-3175X, and every time one comes up under $400 I have a hard time walking away. This was the first time I didn’t.

The VRM Block

While I had the board I came across an EKWB water block designed specifically for it — a dedicated VRM block to cover the power delivery array on the left side. And looking at this board, you understand immediately why someone made that product.

That’s me prepping the VRM for the block. Thermal pad material laid over the phases, scissors on standby. The VRM on the Dominus Extreme is not small. It runs down the entire left edge of the board — a massive array of power phases built to feed a chip that pulls 400 watts at stock. ASUS didn’t cut corners on the power delivery, and it shows physically. The thing is enormous.

The Sale

The board had an issue — the infamous post code 00, traced to a resistor problem. I listed it on eBay as-is with the problem disclosed, EKWB VRM block included, same as I did with the second one later. Sold it for more than I paid.

The buyer messaged me after he got it. He’d fixed it.

Good for him. I still made my money.

Why I Kept Coming Back

After this one sold I found another Dominus a few months later — the one that hit POST code 00 and turned out to be a corrupted CMOS. That board is still running. This one was the first pass, the proof that these boards were out there for real money if you knew where to look.

$300 for a board that launched alongside a $3,000 CPU. Even broken, even flipped, it was worth picking up just to put hands on it.
